On 19 February, EAPN organized an international conference in Dublin to progress its vision for the legacy of the 2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, in the context of the EU’s priorities for the next decade, the “Europe 2020 strategy”.
The conference presented concrete proposals for building a social Europe and making a real difference to the 79 million Europeans who live everyday at risk of poverty. The conference also provided an opportunity for a range of stakeholders, including people experiencing poverty, to input on how the legacy of the Year should be realised. Key speakers like M. Mary Hanafin TD, Irish Minister for Social Affairs, Jérôme Vignon, former Director at DG Employment, Michel Dolle, Director of the Research Centre on Income, Costs and Social Cohesion in France.
EAPN’s proposals on the EU 2020 strategy: An EU We Can Trust set a background to this important debate.
