"being undocumented, so for you I don’t exist" - "constant pressure. It wears you down. Nobody prepared me for living in such harsh conditions" - "stealing our future by keeping us out of touch with the knowledge-based society" - "waking up in bad housing conditions which saps the will to do anything" - "my children inheriting my poverty" - "working full-time, but … not earning enough to make a decent living" - "days without bread are the longest days" - "being old and living alone. I am sick. I am afraid of loneliness … I cry a lot but try to look calm and collected when I go out." - "every agency wanting the same papers. And more photocopies every time" - "being paid regularly, but my debts still mounting up anyway" - "hard to talk about, but when I did start to talk to others I felt no different from them and I wasn’t embarrassed" - "what really wears homeless people out is time. Always waiting, always being on the go…"

ONE WEEK FOR EACH COUNTRY

National Focus Weeks have been designated in EU Member States (plus Iceland and Norway) during which the spotlight will be on their country

NGOs are organising activities linked to the Year in their country.

Ways in which NGOs can mark this week include:

Awareness-raising on poverty and social exclusion issues: challenges and solutions

Visibility of local anti-poverty and social inclusion initiatives (open days for example)

Engaging local and national media on the theme of poverty and social exclusion

• Events involving people experiencing poverty

Joint events between national members of European networks

Joint events between national and European Members of Parliament

• Engaging with other national stakeholders: trade unions, employers, schools, enterprises…

UNE SEMAINE PAR PAYS

Chaque pays européen (l’Islande et la Norvège comprises) aura une semaine durant laquelle une attention plus particulière lui sera consacrée durant cette Année européenne

Les ONG nationales sont vivement encouragées à organiser des activités sur le thème de l’Année européenne durant la semaine de leur pays, de :

Conscientisation sur les thématiques de la pauvreté et de l’exclusion sociale: défis et solutions

Visibilité des initiatives locales

Implication des medias locaux et nationaux à la thématique

Evénements conjoints de membres nationaux de réseaux européens d’ONG
