Caritas Europa (CARITAS EUROPA )

Created in 1971, Caritas Europa brings together 48 organisations that are active in 44 European countries, working to build a better world, especially for the poor and oppressed.

Activities focus on issues related to:

  • poverty
  • social inequality
  • migration
  • asylum
  • humanitarian assistance
  • international development.

With regard to the areas named above, Caritas Europa and its member organisations develop policies for political advocacy at European and national levels.

Apart from CE participation in the activities of the NGO Coalition the Highlights of the CE Programme for 2010 are:

27 January: ZERO POVERTY – ACT NOW Campaign launch in EP hosted by Ms Elisabeth Schroedter

In the week running up to 14 February Bishops in Europe are invited to meet people experiencing poverty and social exclusion.

14 February: The Pope invited by Caritas Italiana, will be visiting Caritas’ projects in Rome

27 May: Conference: « Mobilisation of Europe in the fight against poverty and social exclusion in the world » (CE / secours Catholique)

1-4 October: Forum Cluny 2010 "Social Europe: Stakes and Challenges" Focus: Roma, migrants and homeless.

4 October: Continuation of Cluny 2010 in Strasbourg where policy proposals formulated at Cluny are brought to the European level (Council of Europe)
